Get Your Glow This Summer With These DIY Hair Masks
Whoop whoop! Summer is in full effect, and if you’re like me, you may already be experiencing hair issues from the season’s adventures.
With all the time and money we spend on caring for our hair, it can get frustrating for it to all go down the drain thanks to sweat, salty water and sun damage. Long days at the beach are always fun, but they can leave your hair looking not-so-summer fresh.
There a few ways you can prevent damage to your hair this summer. First off, protect your hair! If you are going to spend the day outside, use a hair thermal protector or natural sunscreen like Argan Oil or Coconut Oil. If you are making a trip to the pool, always rinse off your locks with clean water before diving in. This keeps the pool chemicals from reacting to the product chemicals you may have used in your hair so you don’t get the dreaded “green hair” look. Finally, a great way to keep your hair in check this summer is to use natural hair masks you can make yourself at home every week. Hence this article :-)
Whether you are experiencing dry hair, frizzy hair or damaged hair - there is a all natural remedy hair mask for it! I’ve put together three hair masks that help with the most common summer hair issues. Try these DIY hair masks to keep your hair strong, soft and looking good all season long!
Coconut Milk Hair Mask for Damaged Hair
Coconut milk is amazing for keeping your hair detangled and super moisturized! Add in a little egg to give it some extra protein and shine.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
Beat the egg in a non-plastic bowl and then add in the coconut milk and olive oil and mix well. First, apply mask to scalp and massage in. Then, pour the remaining mixture onto the hair from root to tip. Let sit for 15-20 minutes and then rinse WITH COOL WATER. If needed, wash hair to remove the all of the egg. Enjoy your super soft, detangled locks!
Banana Honey Hair Mask for Frizzy Hair
If chlorine and salt are your worst enemies then this is the hair mask for you! Too much water play can give you serious frizz, and this mask will help you get control of your hair.
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tbsp raw honey
Directions:
Using a blender, combine the banana and raw honey until it purees into a nice, smooth mixture. Then apply directly to hair and pay extra attention to the ends. Cover with a shower cap if you want to get that extra penetration, let sit for 20 minutes and then rinse out thoroughly. Bye bye frizz!
Raw Honey Hair Mask for Dry Hair
This raw honey hair mask is one of my favorites because it not only conditions the hair, but is super hydrating! Because raw honey is naturally antibacterial, it also leave your scalp clean and your hair detoxified.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- 2 tbsp coconut oil or avocado oil
Directions:
Combine ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and then heat for about 5-10 seconds until it is warm enough to spread on the hair. Massage mixture into scalp and then spread evenly throughout the hair. Cover with a shower cap and let sit for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse well and say hello to flake-free, soft and shiny hair!
