How to Make Your Flat Iron Hairstyle Last Longer

by HSI Professional | Dec 05 2016

We've all been there: you work hard to get that hair as straight as you'd like for it to, and by the time you reach your lunch hour, your hair is a frizzy, wavy mess. You probably always assumed this a lost cause, but you'll be happy to know that it's definitely not.

All you need to do to ensure your flat iron job lasts all day is use the right straightener, the right setting, and the right products! If you do those things, you'll be surprised just how healthy, straight, and frizz-free your hair will stay all day long.

The Right Straightener

Pay close attention, because this first tip is vital to the success of your efforts. Without it, your efforts will simply be fruitless. Buying just any old hair straightener won't do you or your hair any favors, and no matter how hard you try – with the wrong straightener, your straight hair simply won't last before it turns to frizz. Start your efforts off right by buying a straightener that'll leave your hair healthy and strong.

HSI Professional flat irons are made of ceramic tourmaline. In short, tourmaline is a crystal that is ground into a fine powder and infused into the ceramic plates of a flat iron. When heated, this substance produces a huge amount of negative ions, enough to counteract the positive ions found in dry and damaged hair. What, exactly does this mean? It means that ceramic tourmaline flat irons are better at avoiding hair damage and neutralizing ions that cause static and frizz.

They also use HeatBalance technology with 8 micro-sensors to regulate the temperature and evenly distribute heat, which means fewer passes through your hair which is always a great thing in terms of time, effort and hair health. Without a straightener that helps avoid frizz and damaged hair, your hair will be just that – frizzy and damaged.

The Right Setting

Beware of those cheap straighteners you see with one temperature setting – it's likely either entirely too hot, or not hot enough, depending on your hair type. Everyone's hair is different, so how can anyone expect the same temperature to work on everyone's hair? The great news about HSI Professional flat irons is that they all come with a temperature dial so you can dial up or down the heat as you see fit for your hair; after all, we always recommend you keep temperatures no hotter than they actually need to be to get the job done.

Taking a look at why temperature is important: not hot enough will leave your hair not so straight; too hot will leave it dry, damaged and full of frizz. Not sure where to start on finding what's right for your hair? We have a guide that should help! For course hair – that is, extra thick and curly – start around 450 degrees and work your way down. For normal hair, or wavy semi-curly hair, 350 is probably your best bet. Fine hair – thin and naturally straight – or hair that is already damaged should start around 180 degrees.

Color treated hair is best to start around 300 degrees. As a best practice, if you're not quite sure what's best for your hair, always begin from the lower temperature and work your way up. Once you find that perfect setting for your hair type, you'll find that straight style will stick around a little easier than it used to.

The Right Products

HSI Professional Flat Irons

At HSI Professional, we offer a range of products for your hair with a primary ingredient of Argan oil. Argan oil is a naturally derived oil from the fruit of the Morrocan Argan tree; it infuses your hair with essential nutrients to give your hair the moisture it needs, to promote shine and to fight frizz. When it comes to ensuring your hair remains healthy and lasts all day, Argan oil is simply a must. We provide several products that will repair and enrich dry and damaged hair as it replenishes moisture and shine and protects the hair from future damage: if it's a product necessary for healthy hair – we supply it with our Argan Oil compound.

Argan Oil Heat Protectant is great for use before both flat iron and curling wand application – expect it to guard your hair from damage caused by excessive high heat exposure products like flat irons and curling wands. Argan Oil Hydrating Smoothing Mask is great for revitalizing dry or damaged hair after excessive heated product application. Argan Oil Leave-in Hair Treatment is perfect for conditioning, styling and finishing your hair; and Argan Oil Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner will moisturize dehydrated hair and remove build up as it cleans and conditions each strand before styling.

All of these products will work alongside your efforts to ensure your hair remains straight all day. You don't have to give up on your straight hair around lunchtime every day. Be the person in the office who has straight hair right until the time you clock out, and beyond.
