International Travel - How to Take your Curling Sets with You

by HSI Professional | Mar 28 2017

So you’ve booked a sweet trip to Barcelona, Rome, London, or some other swanky overseas city, and you’re stoked for the trip of a lifetime! The only question is, what are you going to do with your hair? Okay, so this brings up dozens, if not hundreds of other questions. We’re here to address one of the most important of those: How are you going to be able to use your curling iron?

Well, the good news is curling iron sets have been cleared by the TSA, as non-prohibited in either checked luggage or carry-on bags. That’s right—you can bring your curling wands on board with you so that you can get to styling right off the plane! So that settles that! Now, what about when you get there?

Dual Voltage Curling Irons Travel With You

If you travel frequently, it’s a really good idea to invest in a dual voltage curling iron. Different foreign countries have different voltage systems, so not all single-voltage electric appliances will work in every country. Dual voltage appliances can switch between voltages automatically, relieving you of the stress of not knowing if plugging your curling wand in at the hotel will fry it or shock you.

The most high-quality professional hair curling irons are dual voltage, and will select the necessary voltage for you whether you’re in Madrid or Paris! If you don’t have a dual-voltage appliance, and lack either the time or funds to run out and buy one before your big trip, you can obtain a converter.

A converter can switch the voltage of your appliance from 110 to 220 or vice versa as needed, alleviating the need to run out and get a new hair curling wand. Note, however, that the converters are less conducive to making the curler run smoothly than buying a dual-voltage curler, and can still result in damaging your device.

You will most likely need an adapter that will enable a plug from a device of your home country to plug into a socket at the country you’re visiting.

Choosing A Dual-Voltage Curling Iron

Finding a hair styling wand that is dual-voltage for your travel needs is less complicated than it may sound. Make sure you purchase a hair curler that fits your personal needs. Many professional wand curling irons are dual voltage, and most of them have different features used by stylists worldwide with the latest technology. Some are expensive, but some have a lighter price range. Some of the most important features to consider are:
  • Portability
  • Product Materials
  • Barrel size
  • Temperature system
  • Sustainability
  • Plug-in system (US/Europe or others)
  • Multi-voltage supported or not

Luckily, HSI has several dual-voltage wand curling iron sets that are absolutely amazing: The Groover, the Groover Kit, and the Groover Tapered Curling Wand. All of them feature an ionic ceramic tourmaline-coated barrel with 8 HeatBalance® micro-sensors to regulate the heating temperature 5 times per second and evenly distribute heat for curls that shine and last longer.

The Groover Kit also comes with 4 barrels so you can choose the diameter of your curls. They all switch between 110 and 220 volts automatically, so you won’t have to worry about anything except that adapter, and you can use them anywhere in the world.
