Alicia Keys No Makeup Movement
We can all relate to the feeling of being sick of trying to be perfect. In this world of Instagram, Snapchat and Beauty apps, it's easy to stop embracing the real you and cover yourself with filters.
This is the mindset behind Alicia Keys #NoMakeup movement campaign. The stance she has taken against covering up keeps growing and it’s resonating with her fans.
Since the middle of 2016, superstar artist Alicia Keys has made wearing makeup a thing of the past. After publishing her powerful Lenny essay, she vowed to stop wearing makeup to cover up her natural beauty. Why? She just doesn't want to hide anymore.
"Cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing," she stated.
She included in her essay a game-changing photoshoot with photographer Paola Kudacki, who wanted to shoot her as she arrived on set in her baseball cap and scarf with no makeup on. Paola hoped to capture some real and raw photos to reflect the real and raw music on her album. After some initial hesitation, Keys finally gave in and the results, she wrote, was powerful.
Some call it a movement, and some call it a much needed comeback strategy for the singer. Either way, we love it!
Since her promise then, Keys has gone makeup-free for photoshoots, performances and even during her gig on hit show, The Voice.
