Hair is complicated, we’re not even going to pretend it’s not, but at the end of the day, you have to find a way to manage it, and it’s not always going to be easy. It becomes even more difficult when it comes to working out at the gym. By the time you get done your hair is sweaty and probably looks like something out of a horror movie, so how exactly are you supposed to handle it? Yeah, that’s a good question and fortunately, we have some pretty helpful answers for you. At the end of the day you’ll probably use a professional curling iron set, but what do you do before that to make sure that your hair is in good enough health to handle it?
Refresh your Hair – It’s Important
One of the biggest mistakes that people make when they head to the gym is failing to carry some kind of hair refresher. Take dry shampoos as an example – you need it in your bag. First of all, the hair refresher will restore the vitamins and nutrients to your hair which is much needed at that point. After that, dry shampoo will help to seal in those nutrients and ensure that your hair is in great shape for the rest of the day beyond the treadmill.
Stop Shampooing after Every Workout
Okay, this is probably going to be hard for many people to accept, especially if they’ve made hair care their life. You don’t need to shampoo after every single workout because it can actually dry out your hair and cause you to lose all of your natural oils. That means everything you need to keep your hair healthy is stripped away, and you don’t want to know the result of that. Like we said before, try to keep dry shampoo on hand, in your gym bag – it will soak up the unwanted sweat and oil, absorb the impurities, and give you the hair you want even after a major workout.
Don’t Forget to Prep your Hair
Before your workout, you need to make sure that you’re prepping your hair properly. It might seem a bit counterproductive since you’re about to work out and get all sweaty, but we’re not saying you should break out the hair iron set and completely beautify yourself. We’re saying that you should use a dry shampoo on your hair a few minutes before you start your workout. It’s a little bit of effort that will go a lot further than you think.
Lay off the Brush
Are you addicted to your hairbrush? When you look at your tangled hair after you finish a workout you probably want to run your brush through it, and maybe you should, but you don’t want to do it over and over again. You’ll end up with frizz and broken pieces galore, so start by using a detangling brush so that you can get the tangles out the first time – it really is that simple.
Loosen the Ponytail
You need a ponytail while you’re having your workout, but you don’t want it to be incredibly tight. If you’re not interested in strangling your hair, there are ponytail holders out there that are a bit easier on the hair, and you can even look into headbands that will keep the sweat out of your eyes. There are plenty of mistakes that you can remedy when you’re working out at the gym and it won’t be long before you have the amazing hair that you’ve been dreaming of, even after you’ve finished sweating it out. Use this amazing reference and keep yourself from making some of the most common mistakes.
