Oil is something that has been used for hair for several thousand years, and there has always been a debate as to which is best. Well, this time, it’s coconut vs. argon. Yes, that’s the great debate of 2017 and we’re going to do our best to solve it. We might not succeed, but we’re going to give it the old college try, that’s for sure. These are two oils that promote vibrancy in hair when used properly, but remember that not all oils are equal. Argan oil for hair definitely has a multitude of benefits, but so does coconut oil. Let’s talk about both of them in depth.
Is Argan Oil for Hair the right Choice?
Everyone is telling you to get an argan oil treatment, everyone. Your friends, your hairstylist, a random article on the internet, everyone. But, what about coconut oil? Like argan oil, those in favor of it state that it can easily cure anything. We’re talking about anything from bad breath, to sweating, and of course dry, damaged hair. Argan supporters say the same thing, and it has been known to fix brittle hair quite nicely. So how are you supposed to know who is right? Which advice should you follow? Honestly, it depends on what your end goal is.
Argan oil is derived from the fruit of the argan tree and coconut oil comes from, well, coconuts. Both of these have fatty acids that are good for hair, and they are both chemical free, which means they’re going to be naturally better than traditional shampoos and conditioners – that has to be e relief. So, let’s go ahead and take a look at both, and determine which of them is better.
Coconut oil has plenty of benefits, the first being that it’s chock full of antibacterial properties. It is also antifungal, and when it is placed on the scalp, it can easily treat common conditions like dandruff or rashes. It’s also a great exfoliator and can clear away dead skin to stimulate follicle growth. In addition to all of the above, coconut oil can be used to treat frizz – the fatty acid can be used to smooth down your ends and is an outstanding leave-in conditioner. Just remember that it can be difficult to wash out, and it might make your hair look greasy.
Argan oil, like coconut oil, is good for skin, but it’s not nearly as effective. Actually, argan really shines (no pun intended) in the area of hair growth. It really does beat coconut oil in the area of antioxidants, and the most prevalent one is Vitamin E. When this is applied to the scalp, the vitamins can speed up cell regeneration, facilitating faster hair growth. Now that’s cool. Argan oil is also known to fight free radicals, keeping the hair from being damaged by ultraviolet rays. In other words, your hair is going to be much healthier, even against the things that you cannot control.
Finally, it seals the hair’s cuticles which keeps split ends from forming. With argan oil, hair will look absolutely amazing. So now we come to the final question, the one you came here for: which one is better? Well the answer is that both of them are actually useful, but for different things. Coconut oil is great for treating the scalp once in a while, but argan oil is something that you should be using regularly to promote hair health.
As always, a little bit goes a long way, especially with argan oil. You should also note that most of the argan oil shampoos are going to be better than using straight argan oil as it will be easier to keep an eye on the amount that is going into your hair. You won’t have to worry about ‘overdosing’ or causing damage – it’s a simple concept that will help keep your hair healthy for the foreseeable future so long as you continue using it.
