Curling Irons vs. Hair Curlers – Which is Better?
The age old question right now is whether you should be using curling irons or hair curlers. An ionic ceramic flat iron is definitely going to be tempting, but if you’re more old school, then you’re probably pulled toward the hair curlers. No matter which one you use, the most important thing, is that you absolutely love the way curls look on you.
If you’re a straight haired woman seeking to get the perfect curls, you’ve probably run into more than one roadblock, but don’t worry, there are a few ways to achieve what you want, and to get the best curls this world has ever seen. We’re going to take a quick look at the difference between irons and curlers to help you make an informed decision.
A Word About Curling Irons
The first thing you need to know is that curling irons are very easy to use; they are economical, and they can give you the look you want in just a few minutes. You can easily beautify your current look, or you can curl every hair on your head if you wish. Curling irons are also able to stick hair strands under the hair, and depending on the style you are going for, it can take between 5 and 45 minutes to get the job done.
Whether you use hair curlers or a curling iron, it’s going to take some time, but you should note that rollers aren’t going to give you the results that you want if you don’t give them time to work. So how much time are we talking about exactly? Well, let’s just say that if you happen to be in a rush, then hair rollers might not be what you’re going for, and it might be worth breaking out the ceramic iron.
How Long is Your Hair?
Your hair length is going to be very important when it comes to choosing a curling tool. The size of the hair rollers, for example, will be a critical factor. Rollers and irons come in a wide range of sizes, from 3/8 to 2 inches, and for reference, a hair strand needs to be able to wrap around the barrel 1 ½ times for the best results. Just remember that curling straight hair with larger barrels is going to present some difficulty. With that being said, you do have to do your best to keep your hair wrapped and to hold it while you do so.
Freedom Factors
Something that you may never have considered with hair curlers is the freedom. With ceramic flat irons, you’re stuck in place and you have to do all of the work yourself. On the other hand, with rollers, you can actually sit on the porch, drink a cup of coffee, and enjoy the morning scenery. Then again, maybe you’d like to get some work done around the house while you wait. It’s up to you, and it’s the freedom that rollers can provide you. Curling irons definitely have their own benefits, however. For example, they are easy to carry and store, whereas rollers can take up quite a bit of space in your closet or bathroom. Honestly, you probably remember how large your grandma’s roller kit was.
Ultimately your decision will depend heavily on your needs, and if you want quick results over a short period of time, then a ceramic flat iron is probably going to be your best bet. If, however, you want to avoid heat damage, then a roller might be where you want to go. At the end of the day, it’s going to be up to you, and you will undoubtedly find exactly what you need if you put some thought into it.

I’m wondering if there are products that I can apply to my hair before using the the ceramic flat iron to prevent heat damage. I don’t have the patience to wait for a long time waiting for the roller to take effect. If you could suggest one product, it would be very useful. Thanks!
