Is Your Thermal Protectant Spray Really Protecting?
Do you know if your thermal protectant spray is actually protecting your hair from the intense heat? Most of the popular hot tools reach temperatures of 450 degrees, does your thermal spray actually protect against that much heat? Just ONE use without a thermal protectant spray can really damage your hair, so why aren't you absolutely sure your hair is protected? Well, we can help you be sure.
Today we're talking the top three thermal heat protectors in the industry, plus, the one that beats them all.
First up on the board, the ever so popular CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protectant Spray.
You've heard of it, we've heard of it, your neighbor three doors down has probably heard of it too, but what is so special here? Many reviews of the product (and we're talking honest reviews, not the paid video reviews on youtube and such) said they noticed immediate texture change to their hair as soon as they sprayed. They also mentioned it weighing fine hair down, but most coarse/thick hair reviewers did not have this trouble. On top of all this, there is not a single word in all of our research that states how much heat it protects against.
Our second thermal spray to look over is the GHD Heat Protectant Spray. This brand is also very popular, sold at Ulta Beauty and some major drug stores. With reviews coming out overall higher than CHI's 44 Iron Guard spray, we can be much more confident using this product. In fact, there is not a single one star review! The downside: there is no guaranteed degree protection range. There was some negative feedback about the strong smell as well, which we hope is not intended to mask the smell of burning hair. Overall, GHD has many great products and has been in the industry for a while, so we would like to think the product can be trusted, though it boasts no other qualities except heat protection.
Third thermal protector is the Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray. Phew, that was a mouthful! This bad boy retails at just around $20.00 on Amazon. Reviews are generally good, but there is another problem for fine hair users here. Most fine hair users say the product leaves their clean hair feeling greasy and weighed down. Overall the smell is good and most other hair types do not state negative feeling not their hair after usage. This product also states it protects against 428 degrees! That's not quite how hot our flat irons and curling irons get, but it sure is close.
Lastly we would like to introduce our very own Argan Oil infused Thermal Protectant. This bad boy beats every single one of the above mentioned protectant spray in Amazon reviews coming in at a whopping 4.5 star rating! The other three brands come in at 4.1 or lower. Most of these reviews mention a nice shine to their hair and the obvious heat protection and fabulous smell. This product is guaranteed to protect your hair from up to 450 degrees of heat! That is quite the boast to make, and we stand by it. Not only does this really protect your hair, it also fights away frizz! Plus, Argan oil used over a long period of time can repair your split ends and dry, damaged hair. If you go to the beach a lot, then this HAS to be in your beach bag. Not only will it protect your locks from the harsh sun rays, it will also keep it moisturized after taking a dip in the salt water! Multi-use is always a good thing for your pocket book.
